Florida VA Benefits Attorney

Only an attorney or agent accredited by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) may assist in the preparation, and presentation of claims for benefits. At the law firm of Delzer, Coulter & Bell, P.A., attorney Rebecca C. Bell is one of approximately 100 accredited by the VA on Florida’s North Suncoast. She has the experience and skill to help you obtain the maximum veteran’s benefits to financially assist with your long term care costs.
VA non-service connected pension benefits with Aid & Attendance
If you or your spouse served in the military for at least 90 days, with at least one day during a war period, and did not have a dishonorable discharge; you may be eligible for financial assistance from the VA. As a veteran, with a spouse, requiring “aid and attendance”, you may be eligible to receive up to $2,170.00 per month (2018). A widower of a veteran, with no dependents, requiring “aid and attendance”, may be eligible to receive up to $1,176.00 per month (2018). Lesser benefit amounts are available for those requiring a decreased level of care. In addition to the service requirement and disability requirement, a veteran or their surviving spouse must meet asset and income requirements. A claimant’s countable assets must not exceed $80,000.00; however, the asset limit is not set in stone as the case with Medicaid and will certainly be less for a single claimant. The income limit is the maximum pension rate, which varies depending on marital status and required level of care; however, unreimbursed medical expenses are deducted from income. Unreimbursed medical expenses include caregiver services and assisted living or nursing home costs.
